New York to San Francisco: An In-depth Look at My Experience

Hello to all my avid travelers and lifestyle enthusiasts! Last week, I embarked on a journey from New York to San Francisco for a business meeting, and the experience was a roller-coaster of luxury, surprises, and a few minor glitches. Let me walk you through it!

The Commute: The Need for Speed

Starting off in Hoboken, my Lyft ride to JFK airport took a surprising 90 minutes. A word of caution to my fellow travelers - always leave a generous window of time when commuting to JFK. Traffic can be unpredictable!

TSA Pre-Check: A Sigh of Relief

One of the perks I swear by is the TSA Pre Check. Getting through security felt like walking through a breeze, without the often bothersome wait. Just 5 minutes and I was past security, thanks to no lines.

American Airlines: Loyalty has its Perks

I've been a loyal customer of American Airlines, primarily due to the Platinum Pro loyalty perks. The benefits range from upgrades and free bags to the luxury of selecting better seats. As an AAdvantage Executive credit card holder, I get access to the American Airlines lounge. While the Admirals Club at JFK might not be the largest, it offers a serene escape from the chaotic terminals.

Flying Economy: Not Always What You Expect

Although I eyed a premium upgrade, luck wasn't on my side, and I found myself in economy. The window seat in the first row of economy seemed like a good choice with its extra legroom. However, I quickly realized the massive exit door, instead of a window, made me feel a tad claustrophobic. And trust me, three business professionals using laptops in economy isn’t the ideal scenario.

Mid-Flight Treats

While the lack of a window was a let-down, the meal service was delightful. A turkey cobb sandwich paired with a bottle of red wine, Cheddies, and a delicious Cinnamon Churro Bar for dessert made the journey palatable.

Surprisingly, the Wi-Fi was efficient. It was so robust that I spent a good amount of time scrolling through TikTok videos. But after 6 hours, the moment we touched down in San Francisco, I was eager to stretch my legs.

San Francisco Arrival: First Impressions

A Lyft ride whisked me away to the Hilton San Francisco Airport Bayfront, just 10 minutes from the airport. My Hilton Diamond status ensured I received a complimentary room upgrade with a view to die for. Though the executive lounge was a tad underwhelming, the morning view and walking paths nearby were the silver lining. A morning walk witnessing the sunrise was undoubtedly the highlight of my stay.

The Return Journey: Traveling in Style

Determined not to repeat the economy experience, I redeemed 15,000 miles and added $75 for a Flagship Business upgrade on the A321 Transcon. The comfort of a full lay-flat seat and the exquisite dining experience, from the Gorgonzola-Crusted Beef Filet to the made-to-order ice cream sundae, made the return journey a lavish affair.

In conclusion, while both legs of the journey had their moments, the business class experience on American Airlines remains unparalleled. If you get the chance to experience the Flagship itinerary, seize it!

Safe travels, my classy comrades! And until the next adventure...
